The Miradas ao Sul editorial project brings together two complementary artistic perspectives on Antarctica — the watercolors of Olga Bely and the photographs of Igor Bely — accompanied by historical texts from João Paulo Barbosa, an expert in Antarctic history. A bilingual, multisensory work that connects art, science, and environmental awareness.
Why endorse the project Miradas ao Sul?
Antarctica, a remote and largely untouched region for most people, is a territory of strategic importance for the planet’s future. Its status as a natural reserve dedicated to peace and science — established by the 1961 Antarctic Treaty — will be reviewed in 2048, ma`king awareness of its preservation an urgent matter.
Olga and Igor Bely grew up aboard the legendary polar sailboat Kotik, exploring from the Antarctic Peninsula to South Georgia and the Beagle Channel. Their life experiences inspire a high-quality artistic production that transports audiences to these remote ecosystems.
The project aims to establish an emotional connection between the reader and this territory, transforming visual wonder into an invitation to collective responsibility.
